Kieran started Piano at a young age and came to me with a solid foundation in sight-reading and music theory. Together we discovered Ragtime piano and he was able to learn Scott Joplin’s ‘the Entertainer’ in a couple months, then ‘Maple Leaf Rag’ in a couple weeks. His spark for everything Piano lit up and I found him playing 4 hours of piano a day!

Soon after he was teaching himself ‘Au Clair De La Lune’ & we continued the journey into Classical greats from Mozart & Liszt. Over the course of 2 years we were able to apply for a Summer Program at Interlochen, and now he is a full time Student there, selected for major performance roles representing the school for 3000 person events. He has even been chosen for potential sponsorships by major piano manufacturers in Japan.

Kieran is a ZMI All Star because of his humility, devotion to piano and work ethic, which has nurtured his Talent to incredible heights already at his very young age.

11 Year old Violin Virtuoso

PDS (Pink Diamond Skunk) came to me when she was 7 years old as an already acclaimed classical Violin student.

Over the course of 3 years we were able to learn Piano, Voice, Ukulele & Guitar, write dozens of songs, build a studio and produce 7 songs for an EP released in 2023.

She is now doing her own Podcasts, playing Violin in concerts on Maui and has even been selected to play the leading role in Theatre Productions here on the island.

PDS is a ZMI All Star because of her immense creativity and fearlessness as a young person assuming major roles and being in the spotlight.

Since she first picked up a couple of pieces of driftwood on the beach when she was 3 and started mimicking playing the violin, she was taken her talents to a multitude of places and shown that she is truly an Artist.

Indie / Alternative Band from Maui

Hen House got their beginning jamming in a 10×10 structure on a farm used to store chicken feed!

Over the course of 4 years we were able to develop their band to become one of the most well respected & talented High School Bands on Maui.

We wrote many songs together and chose 4 to record at the Root Cellar Studios in Kula with David Whitney. Releasing a 3 song EP and Single in 2024.

Hen House is chosen for the ZMI All Stars page because they are passionately dedicated to their Music.

Playing in a band is not easy, coordinating busy schedules as juniors & seniors in High school with all the pressures of graduating and extracurriculars. Hen House found themselves rehearsing 2 times a week. Playing shows all over the island for festivals and in local clubs.

Anthony has been one of my longest & most successful Zoom Students of all time! I’ve been working with him for over 4 years weekly for ½ hour Zoom lessons on Ukulele & he is 10 now.

We started from scratch, learning the basics and over time have written over a dozen kids songs (which are really good!). Now he is ripping the Uke, playing Super Mario Brothers Theme, and even Jake Shimabukuro’s version of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’!

Anthony is a ZMI All Star because of his perseverance & commitment to his instrument. His never ending positive attitude and true marvel for Music.

The Smartphone Zombies are the Haleakala Waldorf School High School Rock Band.

Over the past 2 years we have learned to play a handful of epic cover tunes as well as write a bunch of our own.

SPZ has earned a ZMI All Star status by being fearless young people who Rock, recognizing the benefit of how pouring your heart out into music, tames the fires of confusion and self doubt, leaving a lasting positive affect on our mental health overall.
